Behind the Scenes of Goth Fashion
While black has been the main staple of Goth fashion for years, it takes much more than simply putting on a black outfit to achieve the Goth look. While fashion isn't what the Goth subculture is all about, the way you dress tells everyone else how you see yourself.
The purpose of Goth dress style is to express your own individuality. While black is always a good color to start with, many Goths feel free to enhance it with shades of grey and white.
Goth styles can be downright colorful these days. We're starting to see rich tones such as dark red or royal blue, and even hot pink showing up in such outfits. Even so, it still usually comes down to black being the main color.
Accessorizing is very important to dressing in the Goth style. Lots of jewelry, and often piercings, are a hallmark of the style. Jewelry is silver or pewter, and usually chunky or dramatic.
Another important part of someone's identity is religious symbols, which are often worn as pendants. Gloves and sleeves (arm warmers) are often worn, as are patterned tights. Striped or fishnet tights are a way to work color into Goth fashion.
It's not hard at all to find clothes that you can incorporate into your Goth style. One great place to start is at a local thrift shop. This way, you find lots of stuff for cheap, and you'll be able to alter it to your tastes. You can dye it or add studs.
But you can even find the right clothes at a lot of retail stores. Since there are more people than ever who want to dress like Goths, a lot of stores are catering to the trend. By adding your own accessories and jewelry, your outfit can be unique.
This is only one way of thousands to dress in the Goth fashion. You'd have a hard time finding two Goths dressed alike; it's all about individuality.
